What you will find here

This site is a working guide to travel in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, written for visitors who have to plan around real distances. Xinjiang is about a sixth of China’s land area, so the useful questions here are rarely “what is the highlight” and almost always “how far is it, when does it open, and can I do it in the time I have”. Our articles try to answer those three things first.

How the guides are organised

The library is split three ways so you can start from whichever end you already know:

• Xinjiang Attractions covers individual places: lakes, gorges, ruins, protected areas, and the practical detail of getting into them and back out again.
• Xinjiang Cities covers the towns people actually sleep in, with transport hubs, neighbourhoods, food streets and what a first evening there looks like.
• Travel Guide is the planning layer: seasons, borders, permits, railways, driving routes, costs and the things that catch first-time visitors out.

If you are starting from nothing, read the seasonal and transport material before you book anything. Most itinerary problems in Xinjiang trace back to a date chosen before the reader knew when the passes open.

What we leave out

We do not publish sponsored destination pages, and we do not run a shop. This is an information site, funded by advertising, and the guides are written the same way whether or not a place is popular. Where we recommend a hotel, a driver or a route, it is because it worked for us, not because anyone paid for the mention.

How the information is checked

Every guide is built from primary sources: operator timetables, scenic-area administration notices, prefecture and county government data, and heritage or reserve publications, backed up by first-hand trip notes. Prices, opening hours and access rules are treated as perishable and re-checked as we can. The full method, including how we handle corrections and photography, is set out in our editorial policy.

If something in a guide is out of date
